The problem
Diploma external vivas are examined by an outside examiner who probes fundamentals aloud — and students usually prepare from scattered sources: senior-shared notes, photocopied question lists and random online PDFs of mixed quality. There is no single place to revise branch-wise questions with short, speakable model answers, and most material needs internet, which is unreliable in college labs, hostels and exam halls. This project builds a native Android app that fixes exactly that: curated viva question banks organised by diploma branch, each question carrying a concise model answer written in viva-answer style. Full-text search works across all branches, bookmarks build a personal revision list of weak questions stored on the device, and every branch bank ships as an offline PDF generated from the same content source — so the PDFs always match the app. A tactics screen adds examiner-tested answering habits for the viva day itself.
Picks a branch, searches questions, reveals model answers and bookmarks weak ones.
Follow the working sequence
How it works
- The app launches and loads the bundled question content (a structured per-branch file of question, model answer, difficulty and topic tag) into memory — no server call.
- The student picks their branch from the home grid (Computer, E&TC, Mechanical, Electrical, Civil or IT).
- The branch screen lists its questions; a filter box narrows them by keyword, and difficulty/topic tags help prioritise.
- Tapping a question expands its model answer — a short, speakable explanation written for viva delivery.
- The student bookmarks questions they fumble; bookmarks persist on the device and appear under Bookmarks.
- From the Offline PDFs screen, the student opens or downloads the branch's question-set PDF — generated from the same content file, so wording matches the app.
- The Viva Tips screen gives answering tactics for the viva day itself.

| Platform | Native Android app |
| Minimum Android version | Android 8.0 (API 26) — design target |
| Branches covered | 6 (Computer, E&TC, Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, IT) |
| Questions per branch | Approximately 40–60 (design target, content is configurable) |
| Model answers | 2–4 sentences per question, viva-answer style |
| Search | Full-text, on-device, across branches and within a branch |
| Bookmarks | Saved on device, persist across sessions |
| Offline PDFs | 6 branch question-set PDFs, generated from the same content source |
| App size | Approximately 25–35 MB including bundled content (expected) |

Project features
- [Branch-wise question banks] Six diploma branches covered — Computer, E&TC, Mechanical, Electrical, Civil and IT — with curated MSBTE-syllabus-aligned viva questions per branch, expandable by adding to the content file.
- [Concise model answers] Every question has a 2–4 sentence model answer written for speaking, not reading — tap to reveal, covering the definition or law an examiner expects first.
- [Full-text search] Search across all branches from the home screen, or filter within a single branch by keyword — results show the branch tag so the student knows the context.
- [Bookmarks & revision list] Star weak questions; they collect into a personal revision list persisted on the device, available offline for last-night revision.
- [Offline PDF question sets] Each branch bank is generated as a printable PDF from the same content source as the app, so the two can never disagree — designed for no-internet revision.
- [Difficulty & topic tags] Every question carries an Easy/Medium/Hard marker and a topic label (e.g. Networking, Thermo), so students can target weak areas deliberately.
- [Viva-day tactics screen] Built-in answering tactics — draw first, define before deriving, admit limits honestly — drawn from how diploma external vivas are actually conducted.
- [Local-first, no-account design] No backend, no login, no internet needed for any core function; bookmarks and content live entirely on the device.
What is included
- Complete Android app source code (Kotlin, layouts, resources)
- Structured question-content file with sample questions for all six branches
- Six branch-wise offline PDF question sets generated from the same content
- Build instructions (Android Studio setup, APK generation)
- Project report PDF (background, methodology, architecture, outcomes)
- PPT presentation for final review
- Viva Q&A preparation document (Android concepts, content design, offline architecture)
Limitations & prerequisites
- The demo ships a sample content set; the full per-branch question count is a design target (approximately 40–60 per branch) and the delivered bank depends on the final content pass.
- Model answers are concise revision aids, not full textbook explanations — depth is deliberately limited to what can be spoken in a viva.
- There is no faculty/admin panel in the base build — adding questions means editing the content file and rebuilding; a panel is optional customization.
- PDF regeneration happens at build time from the content file; the app does not author new PDFs on the device.
- Bookmarks live on one device only — there is no cloud sync or backup in the base build.
- Android only in the base build; an iOS version would be a separate effort, available as optional customization.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the app really work without internet?
Yes. All questions, model answers and bookmarks live on the device, and the PDFs are bundled with the app — search, bookmarks and reading need no connectivity. This is the core design point: revision in labs and hostels where internet is unreliable.
Can I add my own branch or college-specific questions?
Yes. Questions live in a structured content file, so a new branch or extra questions can be added by editing that file and rebuilding the app — and the PDFs regenerate from the same source. A faculty editing panel is optional customization.
Are the questions tied to a specific syllabus?
The sample content is aligned with the diploma (MSBTE-pattern) syllabus across the six branches. If your college follows a different board or pattern, the content file can be rewritten for it during the build.
Do the PDFs match the app exactly?
Yes — that is the architectural point. Both are generated from the same content file, so a question and its model answer read identically in the app and in the PDF.
Is this project suitable for a final-year project?
Yes — for Computer Science, IT and Electronics & Telecommunication students, and diploma programs. It demonstrates native Android development, on-device persistence, search implementation, offline-first architecture and content-driven app design. Suitable for B.E./B.Tech final-year projects in Computer Science, IT and Electronics & Telecommunication.
